The apps are free. The subscription covers the servers.
The Mac app is free and complete on its own, and the iPhone and iPad apps are on their way. None of that costs us anything to provide, so none of it is gated. What does cost money is the part with a server behind it, and that is what is sold.

The subscription

The trial holds 1,000 cards and one imported file, which is enough to bring a subject over and live in it for two weeks. Subscribing lifts both.
